Daystar Sol 100mm Dedicated Solar Telescope
NOT JUST A QUARK IN A 100MM TELESCOPE!
Daystar’s clean sheet design improves upon the great value and versatility of the Quark.
• Truly dedicated and integrated: The barlow of the Sol 100 is the actual drawtube of the focuser, complete with brass focusing rack. This conjoinment makes the assemblage of components on the rear of the telescope tighter and more compact with no wobble from adding components into a drawtube. The Quark IS the drawtube.
• The Quark can’t be accidently removed during outreach events by an unsuspecting curious child. Not only is the etalon cup bolted to the telescope, but the barlow and blocker are integral components deep in the structure of the instrument. The Sol 100 can’t be unsafe and a telescope at the same time.
• Lenses were all prescribed and optimized as a cohesive unit for h-alpha. This allowed us to achieve the parallelism required for narrow bandpass at the etalon at a faster focal ratio. Etalons require near parallel light to deliver best performance. Clean sheet telecentric lens design accomplishes this at a faster focal ratio.
• FULL DISK WITH 100mm. Lots of astronomers want a full disk through their solar telescope. This can be difficult to achieve with 100mm of aperture. This custom design delivers 0.75° field of view at 100mm aperture.
• Nighttime telescopes are designed and coated for full spectrum, where their design wavelength is 500nm. The Sol 100 was designed and coated uniquely for the Hydrogen Alpha 656nm wavelength.
• No more wild focus shifts! When a barlow lens is used like the 4.3X which is in a Quark, focus becomes extra sensitive and the range of travel needed is 1/4 of the turns. That makes it possible to get hopelessly lost when trying to focus a regular focuser with a Quark mounted. Our Sol 100 focuser offers the full focus range between Visual with a 2″ diagonal and an eyepiece – all the way down to a camera mounted directly on the Quark housing. But not so much as to get lost.
• The built-in solar finder embedded in the rings means never having to mount or align an aftermarket solar finder. The solar finder dot is always collimated with the scope.
Simplicity meets performance in our all new no compromises 100mm Hydrogen Alpha solar telescope. This integrated solar telescope offers safety and ease of use to show prominences, solar flares, active regions, chromosphere, spicule, and many more exciting phenomena visible in red Hydrogen Alpha light. With changes on the Sun visible after only a few minutes, each day will bring fresh new views never to be repeated.
Like all DayStar Filters, this telescope is Made in USA in our vertically integrated manufacturing facility where as much of the process as possible is performed in house by DayStar employees in order to provide you with quality and service. Even our filters manufactured over 50 years ago are still serviceable and regularly upgraded, repaired, and maintained by our experienced staff.
Thanks to our advanced CNC machining equipment we have created the smallest and lightest 100mm aperture narrowband solar telescope ever made. It weighs only 8 pounds (3.6kg) and at about 19 inches long fits into an airline carry-on bag. The integrated carry handle also functions as a solar finder.
Our telecentric optical system offers a full disk field of view visually and with APS-C or larger camera sensors, while 1″ sensors can use our 0.6x focal reducer and 1/2″ sensors can use our 0.33x reducer to accomplish full disk imaging.
The all new 12:1 dual speed focuser, manufactured by DayStar, is compatible with most third party focus motors for easy remote control while imaging. The helical rack and pinion focus mechanism offers smooth, precise focusing and includes a locking brake mechanism, with stainless steel reduction components for durability.
Includes mounting rings, dovetail, carry handle with integrated solar finder, covers, Flat Cap for imaging, AC power supply, USB power cable, 1.25″ eyepiece adapter, and durable hard case.
Compatible with the entire ecosystem of DayStar Quark accessories, including 2″ eyepiece adapter, imaging tilt adapters and focal reducers, battery and more.
The Sol telescope series is also available in 60mm, 80mm, and 130mm apertures in order to fit all observing goals and budgets.
