Astronomy Plus 5" Felt-Lined Dew Shield

A dew shield is an essential accessory in astronomy and astrophotography, designed to reduce lens fogging caused by condensation. It extends beyond the telescope's aperture, slowing heat loss and shielding the optics from moisture, stray light, and glare. Attaching the Dew Shield to your optical tube is easy thanks to the Velcro attachment points.

The furthest interior section of the shield is flocked with felt, a material chosen for its excellent light-absorbing properties. This dark, non-reflective felt lining minimizes internal reflections, improving contrast and preserving image quality. In addition to enhancing optical performance, the felt also helps absorb excess moisture, further reducing the risk of dew formation on the telescope’s lens or corrector plate. 

A strip of added faux-leather padding is incorporated into the design to protect the telescope tube’s finish, preventing scratches and ensuring a secure, non-abrasive fit.

A properly designed dew shield is a simple yet effective way to optimize viewing and imaging conditions, particularly in humid or light-polluted environments.
