Description

Rowan Astronomy AZ100 Alt-Azimuth Mount 

CNC machined and black anodised finished and fitted with stainless steel hardware.
Specifications includes an 80.0 mm diameter 7075 aluminium wheel gear and brass worm gear in adjustable worm block.
32mm diameter 7075 aluminium axis shafts supported in high quality ball and taper bearings.
Features included adjustable friction clutches on both axis and 360 degree slow-motion controls allowing simultaneous push-to and slo-mo tracking.
High quality flexible slow motion cables included. Pair at 340mm & 440mm long. (Custom lengths available)
Both slow motion controls remain in alignment with the observer at all times.
Load capacity is 15-20 kg each side depending on scope length.

Options for the base mount.
Pre-installed Renishaw 152,000 step encoders.

If you are using your existing Nexus DSC please check your encoder lead is compatible with the AZ100 encoder pin out.

The encoder cables move with the mount and don't wrap or tangle in the Az-axis as the mount is moved.

  • Losmandy 'D' section saddle. 200m long with 2 clamps.
  • Dual Losmandy / Vixen section saddle. 200m long with 2 clamps. 16mm central thread for counter weight shaft.
  • 3.75 Kg stainless steel counterweight 125mm diameter. 25mm hole.
  • Counterweight shaft. 25mm diameter Stainless steel with M16 thread for attachment direct to a Rowan saddle.
  • Counterweight shaft and mounting flange. Select this option if you're not using a Rowan saddle.

Rowan AZ100 Alt-Az Mount

We recommend Berlebach Berlebach now have an AZ100 fitting option.
Altrnatively the AZ100 can fitted to any tripod designed for a Sky-Watcher NEQ6 mount.The tripod's AZ pin needs to be removed.
Alternative mounting can be any flat tripod or pier with and M12 bolt attachment.

Quality Mount, Excellent Service

It took me a while to realize that manual alt-az astronomy was my passion, but once I understood that I sought out something robust that would last a lifetime. I found it in this mount, the Rowan AZ100. It arrived yesterday and has already exceeded expectations.

Until I settle on a fitting tripod, (i.e. work up the courage to buy a Super Mount - 'buy once, cry once'), I have it on a ZWO TC40 purchased a year ago from Astronomy Plus. It's a stable fit with almost no vibration, jiggling, or settling time evident even at high magnification through a Sky-Watcher Mak 180. With slight turns of my wrist, the slow-motion controls effortlessly track objects and should I wish to upgrade to goto and tracking later, I have that option.

The service I received from Astronomy Plus was also excellent - due to schedule conflicts I had, they held the product until I was ready to receive it and shipped it timed to arrive precisely when I requested. All in all, they were a pleasure to work with.
