EmCan AZ40 Strain Wave Alt-Az Mount
Following the success of EM31 equatorial mount, EMCAN now brings the strain-wave drive to a visual-first Alt-Az platform: AZ40 Strain-Wave Alt-Az Mount.
Built around a lightweight yet high load-capacity design, AZ40 features a standard top mount with optional side brackets, enabling observers to operate multiple instruments simultaneously while maintaining stable balance and smooth tracking.
Its patent-pending tool-free coaxial alignment system allows instruments on adjustable brackets to be aligned quickly and easily.
Compatible with a wide range of optical setups — from binocular telescopes to refractors and reflectors — the AZ40 provides a flexible and mechanically stable observing platform.
Strain Wave Drive
The AZ40 uses a strain-wave drive system similar to that in the EM31 equatorial mount. It delivers high torque, maintains a compact structure, simplifies balance requirements, and provides smooth motion for GoTo and tracking
Comapct Body - Heavy-Duty Perfromance
he AZ40 uses type-20 strain-wave reducers on both axes. With a body weight of 6.5 kg and a rigid structural design, it provides a stable load capacity of 20-30 kg. When paired with the side brackets, each side can accommodate an additional 20 kg, achieving an excellent
balance between portability and strength ideal for both backyard and field observation setups.
AZ40 + Askar 203 + Side MK150 + Side 90APO (apporx. total 40 kg).
Innovative U-Shaped Support Base
The U-shaped frame is equipped with a strain wave reducer on the altitude axis and a support bearing on the opposite end. Combined with the high torque of the strain wave reducer, this design ensures excellent load capacity while optimizing both size and weight.
Flexible Multi-Telescopes Mounting
The AZ40 features a standard top mounting position, with optional side brackets allowing for up to two additional mounting positions. It supports a wide range of optical setups - from
binocular telescopes to refractors and reflectors.
Tool-Free Coaxial Alignment for Multiple Telescopes
The optional adjustable side bracket enables coaxial alignment, allowing multiple telescopes to be aligned without tools.
This allows observers to quickly match the pointing direction of different instruments, simplifying multi-telescope observation.
Quick Calibration & Safe Operation
- Spiral star-search mode and 1-star alignment for fast and easy calibration
- Integrated bubble level for quick and accurate leveling
- Built-in altitude limit sensor and power-off brake system to prevent accidental drops or collisions
Innovative Counterbalance Design
The optional side bracket features a low-center-of-gravity design with dual dovetail mounting positions, allowing flexible adjustment of the system's balance.
Side-mounted telescopes enable multi-instrument observation while helping to maintain system balance.
Expandable Counterweight System
For heavier optical systems, the AZ40 provides an optional counterweight interface.
This allows additional counterweights to be added to increase load capacity while maintaining system balance and stability.
Quiet and Energy-Efficient Operation
AZ40 uses a closed-loop control system that ensures smooth tracking with low power consumption. The system operates quietly, making it ideal for nighttime observing sessions.
The mount can be powered by a 12V DC source or portable power bank, providing excellent flexibility for outdoor use.
